Interview with a music producer

DreamHackathon Interviews

As DreamHackathon approaches we're dedicated to bring the full experience to everyone, we're launching a series of publications that aim to communicate this. A few days ago we got the opportunity to interview a music producer that thought that DreamHackathon was not something for him. DreamHackathon is an including event where people from different parts of the industry meet up for a chance to the 100.000 SEK prize pool, to network or to be completely free.

Producer: What is a hackathon?

Staff: A Hackathon is an event where people with different background join up to create something together within a 24 hour timeframe. It originates from the coding community but today its used for all sorts of events involving fast-paced and team-based problem solving. DreamHackathon focus on digital media as the vessel of creativity. This involves everything from programming to illustrating to music composing.

Producer: How do you mean its for everyone? I cannot code or program.

Staff: Games today are not silent, right? Games today features stunning visual arts, right? Doesn't that mean composers and illustrators are needed as much as programmers? You bet! DreamHackathon aims to bring all parts together that are required to produce great results or products that feel and are perceived as complete in the sense that all core elements of a product is there.

Producer: But if I only know composing, and I don’t know anyone that can help me with the rest?

Staff: Don’t worry! That is why there will be a team-forming event happening! As said before, the overall feel is important for the competition, and therefore the selection process will be utilized to bring a balance to the force… No really, we want teams with as much diversity as possible with people with relevant skills. As a producer you might want to find yourself game engine wizards and presenters with godly charisma.

Producer: I want to focus most of my energy towards the music even though I know that might make my gameplay part suffer?

Staff: Whatever floats your boat! This competition has been designed to encourage whatever you think is the most exciting part to work with! It might be nice to know though, the competition include several categories (you will be able to read more about them on the website shortly) such as Audio Environment, Visual Experience or Gameplay. You are able to win each category separately, and to be completely fair: the team with the overall best scores from all categories combined will win the grand prize!
